my approach

traditional rulerships • traditional aspects • whole sign houses

what is astrology, exactly, what can it do, and what is its purpose? these are questions i’ve asked myself constantly throughout my astrological training and practice.

in my experience, astrology can provide three incredible things: validation, compassion, and direction.

it is so easy to get into a headspace of comparison and judgment, both of ourselves and others, and when we can understand our birth charts we can actually see why certain aspects of life might be easier or more difficult for us, why certain topics can manifest quickly or slowly, and why we might be more inclined toward certain behaviors or ways of thinking. the chart can point us in directions that feel most aligned with our authentic drive and desire, shed light on our personal rhythms, and show us how we might be compatible with others. it’s also just kind of fun!

another question i consistently ask myself about astrology is, what are its implications? what does it mean about our lives that they’re somewhat pre-determined by the time and place we were born? and how do we best use that information?

as i’ve grappled with this, i’ve come to the (maybe temporary?) conclusion that astrology answers questions of what but it doesn’t necessarily offer insight into why. it doesn’t inherently provide any meaning or spiritual perspective; this must be provided by those who are working with the astrology.

i prefer to work with astrology as a mirror rather than a causal force. this is because i believe that we are all here with the opportunity to learn from life and i don’t find it particularly helpful to give up our agency to the planets. if there is some causal relationship between the skies and the earth, i like to think that the planets are acting with intention to provide opportunities for growth and freedom, calling us to a unified source of big love.

my spiritual perspective is that we are all seeking some kind of connection, fulfillment, authenticity, and freedom. i think that what our chart shows is our circumstances, our desires and drives, our learning opportunities, our obstacles and advantages, and the ways in which we engage in this experience of life.

a chart reading is simply an interpretation or a translation of a chart that is heavily influenced by the astrologer’s techniques, skill, and own spiritual lens. ultimately, you are the authority on your own life and a chart interpretation should never override your own internal knowing or spiritual connection.
